How to Blur the Background
Wondering how to blur the background in a photo? In this quick video, I’ll show you the key ingredients for getting silky smooth blur behind your subject, otherwise known as “bokeh.”
For your notes, here are the steps…
- Zoom in or use a longer focal length (between 50mm and 200mm)
- Get close to the subject and make sure the background isn’t directly behind them
- Use the lowest possible aperture f-number for your lens (the lower the aperture f-number, the smoother the blur will appear)
If you don’t already have a prime lens with a low aperture f-number, I created a video comparing it to the kit lens here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zF-QD…
